5 Key Strategies for Leading a Diverse and Remote Team

  • 07/12/2023

Over the past three years at Lebara, I’ve learned that managing a multifaceted, multicultural, and remote-based team presents its own set of unique challenges. However, these challenges are accompanied by unparalleled opportunities for growth and innovation.

Maintaining both happiness and productivity within the team demands a harmonious blend of empathy, clarity in communication, and meticulous strategic planning.

Here are the five practical tips that I have found to be particularly effective to navigate this extremely dynamic landscape.

1. Weekly Catch-Ups Beyond Work

weekly catch up

Personal Connections Matter

It’s essential to have weekly catch-ups with your team. However, these shouldn’t be limited to discussing work progression and tasks. Take time to delve into their lives as individuals. This approach fosters a sense of belonging and shows that you value them beyond their work contributions.

2. Communicating Priorities and Workload

prioritise work

Creating a Collective Work Timeline

Ensure clear communication of priorities and maintain a work timeline that encompasses everyone’s tasks. This visibility is crucial not just for tracking progress, but also for making sure everyone’s workload is balanced. It’s a vital tool for both you and your team to understand current engagements and adjust workloads accordingly.

3. Embracing Cultural Diversity in Communication

Learning from Each Other

Each culture has unique ways of communicating, expressing opinions, and giving feedback. Embrace empathy to view situations from different perspectives. Engage in conversations with your team members about your communication style and work methodology. This openness to feedback and self-improvement enriches the team’s dynamic.

4. Supporting Team Members’ Ambitions

Sinergy Collaboration

Investing in Their Growth

Understanding and supporting your team members’ ambitions is invaluable. Assist them in achieving their goals and advancing their careers. This support is a precious gift that strengthens your working relationship and enhances their commitment to the team’s success.

5. The Power of Genuine Gratitude

Appreciating the Heart of Your Work

Learn to express gratitude authentically. Remember, your team is the core of your work, and without their efforts, achieving goals would be impossible. Regular, sincere appreciation goes a long way in maintaining morale and motivation.

Conclusion

These tips may seem straightforward, but daily pressures can sometimes make us overlook these fundamental practices. Regularly reflect on ways to improve your team dynamics and, importantly, involve your team in this process. By implementing these strategies, you can create a harmonious, productive, and happy remote working environment.
